Yangon

During our roadtrip through Myanmar we visited after Mandalay also Yangon , the city is called  Rangoon by local residents and was the former capital city of Burma. Yangon is still the biggest city of Burma but I noticed that poverty besides the impressive temples is also a predominant aspect in certain regions. During our tour we have seen a lot of shantytowns and miserable conditions in which some people have to live. Personally I think you cannot only visit the big and beautiful cities during an expedition like this, because the ideal world does not exist. You have to relativize that the world can also be the opposite of luxury. It is really necessary to visit and hear real life stories of inhabitants .It made me realise that I have a good life and the opportunity and resources to accomplish something.

The most popular destination in Yangon is the Shwedagon Paya, the biggest temple of Myanmar, a 99 meters high building, covered in Gold, located on Singuttara Hill. Scientists believe the Pagoda was built between the 6th and 10th century. The temple is restored several times over the years. We decided to follow a four hour tour in this historical building.

We began our tour with a breakfast at a local teashop. We have learned a lot about the daily life of the local people and gained a deeper insight into the Buddhist religion.
The Singuttara hill was near to Kandawgyi lake, more specifically the Karaweik was our next stop during our visit to Yangon. It is a palace located on the Pyigyimon royal barge. Such constructions do  not really exist in our own culture so I enjoy seeing all these beautiful buildings while travelling. Delphine and I took this opportunity to take some pictures for the home front.

Before starting our trip some friends who had visited the city recommended us Mont Hin Gar as a typical dish. The dis is actually a fish soup with thin rice noodles, I really recommend it to all the people who visit this city! Altough I have a great time with my friends I do miss my family and friends.
