After visiting India,
we travelled to Pakistan. We would like to do something else than visiting
monuments, buildings and so on. So we decided to try the (local) cuisine. We
also decided to relax a day.
Our first stop in
Pakistan was Multan. It was almost noon when we arrived in Multan and so we
agreed to eat at a restaurant, where we would taste the local cuisine.
We started with an appetizer.
We tried “Pakora”. It
is a fried snack made of potatoes, onions, cauliflower, spinach, bread or chicken.
Our first dish was “Korma”
because we heard from friends that we had to try this when we were in Multan.
This dish consists of yogurt, cream, nut and seed pastes or coconut milk. It
didn’t look tasty but it wasn’t that bad.
We tried “Pasanday” as
well. This dish is originally made with leg of lam, flattened into strips,
marinated and friend is a dish with multiple seasonings. Nowadays, this can be
made with chicken and prawns.
We also wanted
something sweet so we tried the “Tandoori Chicken”.
This dish is made of roasted chicken, prepared with yogurt, honey and spices.
It is popular in India and Pakistan. We liked this dish. It was better than the
first.
As dessert, we tried
“Sohan Halwa”. This is a traditional sweet in Pakistan but also in Iran and
India. It is a mixture of water, sugar, milk and cornflour and saffron is used
for flavouring. Also almonds, pistachios and cardamom are added. It looked a
bit like a pancake.
We also ate “Phirni”.
This dessert is a kind of rice pudding. It is made of milk, rice, water, sugar,
cardamom powder, pistachio nuts and saffron. We thought it would be warm but
this dessert is always served cold. This really tasted good.
